Did you know?

  • Africa  has only 11% of the world's population but has approximately 19% of the world's blind population
  • Approximately 50% of blindness in Africa is avoidable
  • The recommended cataract surgical rate (CSR) is at least 2,000 per year in order to eliminate unnecessary blindness caused by cataract but Malawi has a rate of less than 200

Who are Sight 2020 Direct?

Sight 2020 Direct is an eye charity working to reduce the rate of preventable blindness in Malawi. We work with local partners to provide eye care services to Malawians who cannot afford to pay.

For those who have already lost sight we offer occupational therapy services. We promote social inclusion through a variety of activities, such as blind football, goal ball, music, art and crafts.

New website launch

Welcome to the new Sight 2020 Direct website! Although we have been continuing our work over the last few years we have lacked a website to keep people informed about our projects and fundraising.

Our new website, which is being hosted for free by Kualo, will be updated regularly with our latest news and plans.
